Harpoon Brewery was looking for a method to greet their touring visitors in a grand fashion. After contacting DGI, they certainly achieved that result! Harpoon uses their new 53′ tall x 38′ circumference silo as a wastewater storage tank for their brewing process. This highly-visible structure was erected adjacent to Harpoon’s visitor entrance, which is the pedestrian entry for those who arrive at Harpoon for scheduled brewery tours. The scale of this graphic focal point is an introduction to the size and success of Harpoon.
The silo was installed on a concrete deck that is raised several feet from ground level. Two sides of the silo have a very narrow paved area below the concrete deck, while the two other sides are situated next to existing buildings and are only accessible from on the raised concrete deck. This unique position of the silo presented a challenge for how DGI’s installers would be able to gain full 360-degree access from top to bottom. DGI’s site inspections included testing proposed aerial lift equipment to ensure this was possible before printing the 2000+ square feet of 3M IJ-180 Controltac with 3M 8519 Laminate.
